Newsreader in fruit shocker!

Famed BBC newsreader Huw Edwards has been arrested in Swansea for possession of a kiwi fruit. The announcement comes just a week after a new policing strategy on the enforcement of the Misuse of Fruit Act was released by the Home Secretary.

A police statement confirmed the news: 'A 47 year old male newsreader has been arrested for Possessing a Kiwi Fruit with Intent in Swansea. Investigations are ongoing so no further comment will be made at this time, other than to remind people that kiwi fruit abuse is dangerous, both to individuals and society. We are determined to aggressively seek out those who continue to abuse not only kiwi fruit but other fruits as well.'

Edwards' solicitor said her client was shocked by his arrest. Amanda Fotherington-Smyth, Fruit Specialist at Shyster and Company, said: 'My client is adamant the kiwi did not belong to him and doesn't know where it came from. He will defend himself vigourously against the charges and is well known throughout journalistic circles for his anti-fruit stance.'

Edwards is the latest in a long list of broadcasters arrested for fruit offences. Davina McCall was recently questioned over allegations of Indecency with a Strawberry, while perhaps more famously, David Dickinson has just been released from prison in Singapore after serving time for papaya offences.
